IN-TF1 CURT

The Indiana Task Force One Canine Urban Response Team is an elite, urban K9 search team made up of IN-TF1 Canine Search Specialists with certified teams available 24/7 to assist law enforcement in the search for missing persons. CURT was formed in 2004 after receiving numerous requests from local authorities who wanted Task Force handlers and dogs to assist them with missing person searches.

The "Guard Shack" pile at Hanson. We are a non-profit, volunteer service unit and provide this service at no charge to the community.

CURT K9 teams are used to search for missing persons in the urban or wilderness environment. Our dogs are trained to locate and alert on people who are either out in an open area or concealed.

Because of its reputation for excellence and high quality training, IN-TF1 has attracted the best handlers and dogs from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio. In 2005, IN-TF became the first task force in the country to have 12 FEMA certified dogs on its roster.

The FEMA certification is the only nationally recognized certification for search and rescue dogs.

Most of IN-TF1 CURT’s K9 resources are FEMA-certified disaster dogs. Non-disaster dogs are required to pass the same four elements of the basic FEMA test as well as a certification in wilderness or human remains detection.

These stringent training, evaluation and national certification requirements ensure that IN-TF1 CURT K9 teams can complete any task they are given efficiently and professionally.

The IN-TF1 canine division trains as a unit every other week in collapsed structure search and rescue. CURT members do additional training in specialty disciplines including wilderness search, recovery of human remains (HR), water recovery and article search.
